Why Blade Fit Matters

Installing the wrong blade can damage your mower deck, void your warranty, and create a safety hazard. Before ordering any replacement blade, always verify compatibility against your mower's owner manual and the specifications below.

How to Find the Right Blade: 6 Key Specifications

1. OEM Part Number

The fastest and most reliable way to find a replacement blade is by cross-referencing the OEM (Original Equipment Manufacturer) part number. This number is typically stamped directly on the blade, printed on a sticker on the underside of the deck, or listed in your owner's manual parts diagram. Search or filter by OEM part number to find exact-match and cross-reference compatible blades.

2. Blade Length

Measure blade length diagonally end-to-end in a straight line (not along the curve). Common blade lengths include:

• 18" – Small walk-behind mowers
• 20" – 21" – Standard walk-behind mowers
• 46" – 52" – 54" – 60" – Zero-turn and riding mower deck blades (deck size divided among multiple blades)

For example, a 52" Toro deck typically uses two or three blades. Check your manual for the individual blade length required per blade position.

3. Center Hole / Bolt Pattern

The center hole must match your spindle exactly. Common patterns include:

• 5-point star – Common on many Toro, Exmark, and Husqvarna models
• Round center hole – Common on Cub Cadet, Troy-Bilt, and MTD models
• 3-hole or 4-hole bolt pattern – Found on select commercial brands

A blade with the wrong bolt pattern will not mount securely and must not be used.

4. Deck Size

Your mower deck size (e.g., 42", 48", 52", 54", 60") determines how many blades are used and at what individual length. Deck size is usually listed on a label on the deck housing or in your model number lookup. Always confirm the number of blades your deck uses before ordering.

5. Blade Function / Blade Type

Different blade types produce different cutting results. Choose the type that matches your mowing needs:

• Standard / Low-Lift – Best for dry, flat terrain. Less airflow, fuel efficient.
• High-Lift – Creates strong upward airflow for bagging and a clean cut in thick grass.
• Mulching – Curved cutting edge recirculates clippings for fine mulch. Ideal for mulching kits.
• Gator / Fusion / 3-in-1 – Serrated trailing edge for mulching and discharging. Versatile all-season option.
• Rotary, Stens, Oregon aftermarket – Third-party cross-reference blades meeting or exceeding OEM specs.
